Ambiguity informs Hugh's art. Dramatic line and color add to the appeal of his oils, whether landscape, figure or abstract subjects.

Hugh has studied painting through San Diego continuing education under Parietta Hester, Patrick Mason and Annette Paquet.

Fellow Englishman David Hockney described his work as "awkwardly provocative on the small scale."

Recent shows include an exhibition at the University of California San Diego Retirement Center. He is a member of the La Jolla Art Association.
